Introducing the Host of Turkmenistan’s Yasayys Cesmesi

Fountain of Life

“Yasayys Cesmesi” or “Fountain of Life” is a Christian program  for women in the Turkmen language.  The initial season was produced  by GHM, in cooperation with Gospel Wave Media Ministry and we are looking forward to participating in future seasons.  The program is broadcast via satellite to countries like Turkmenistan, Iran and Afghanistan where the language is spoken and understood.  Tach is the dynamic host of this program which brings the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to these repressive countries.

A Long Road to Christianity

Tach was born to a large Muslim family.  She was a happy child on a busy farm.  Dad worked for the government and her mom was a homemaker.  Religion was not a part of their life, but they knew there was a God, in spite of influences around them which tried to convince them otherwise.

As the Soviets pulled out of Turkmenistan in 1991, the new government forced her father to become a practicing Muslim, but by then Tach was already away in school.  It was unusual, at that time, for a Turkmen woman to go to college.  Though Tach did not know Jesus, she had prayed God would send her to school and He did.  When discussing this part of her life she says, “Little did I know He was already working in my life, preparing me for His service.”

Time and again during her studies, God brought Christian influences into Tach’s life, but in her culture a woman would never choose her own religion.  She thought it was up to God to convert her parents and then she would become a Christian.  Tach actually resented all the women who constantly shared the Gospel with her, but in spite of her resentment, the message of hope got through.

A Satanic Encounter Leads to Christ

During a visit to her family, Tach became ill and was taken to a fortune teller, which is still considered a normal remedy in much of Central Asia.  Like King Saul with the witch of Endor (I Samuel 28), Tach got more than she bargained for.  She was told that her future held a great light called Jesus.

An astonished Tach asked the fortune teller if she realized Jesus was God, as Tach had learned from her Christian friends she hadn’t wanted to listen to. Even the Satanic spirit in the woman could not deny Christ.  Tach was very afraid.  Eight months later, Christ called on Tach in the night and finally she accepted Jesus as her Savior.

The Truth Will Set You Free

Once Tach became a practicing Christian acting out her faith and fellowshipping with other believers, she became the target of government persecution.  Once when she wanted to travel out of the country to go to a wedding she was brought in for questioning and she wanted to lie about her faith, but Matthew 10:33 held her from doing so.  This was her first test before the Turkmen authorities and it would not be her last, but she remains faithful to the Truth and the Gospel.
