Introducing the Host of Uzbekistan’s Shukar Aytaman

Umida & Abror

On August 30, we introduced you to Abror, the Uzbek host of men, children and family programming at Global Heart Ministries.  We explained how Umida and Abror met on public transportation and eventually married.  Now we want you to meet Umida.

God had big plans for Uzbekistan the day He arranged for this power couple to meet.  Abror is not the only TV personality in the family.  Umida hosts our Uzbek women’s talk show, Shukar Aytaman.  The English translation for the title of the show is, “I Am Thankful.”

Umida Seeks the Truth

Like Abror, Umida was born into a Muslim family and like him, she believed in God, but did not know Jesus Christ.  When she was 13, the burden of Islam’s teachings and it’s inability to offer hope caused her to cry out to the Lord in extreme fear. “God, I am really afraid of this hell I hear about from my parents and grandparents,” she prayed, “I really want to be in heaven after I die.”

Jesus had anticipated her prayers.  Within days, her sister, Feruza, who attended school in another city, arrived home for a visit.  Feruza’s heart was overflowing with news about the Savior.  Umida learned from her sister that Jesus Christ was the only way to God, because only He had died on a cross for our sins.

“It filled my heart with joy and brought hope.  I accepted Jesus as my Savior right away, ” Umida explains.  “God is good and He always reveals Himself to anybody who seeks the truth.

A Modern Day Proverbs 31 Woman

From her conversion as a teenager Umida has grown into a real Proverbs 31 woman.  She is a loving wife, the doting mother of two, loves cooking and sewing, is a mentor and friend to many women, hosts a TV show, loves to entertain and enjoys having guests in her home.

Somehow with all that going on, she still works daily at Global Heart ministries.  Much of what she does is related to translation, both for the programs and for our staff, as we try to communicate with people in and from Central Asia, who have languages in common with her, but not with our English-speaking staff.  Actually that’s only a sampling of what she does, because just a few days ago she was re-organizing a storage area in the office.

Somehow she packages all that power into a gentle and quiet spirit appreciated by all who know her.  Her life reminds observers of Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as for the Lord, not for human masters.”   She really is a quiet storm for Jesus Christ.
